Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation (CEMF) Polytechnique Montréal

Dear Supporter,

As we turn an important page in the history of the Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation (CEMF), we wish to express our deepest gratitude for your steadfast support. Thanks to allies like you, we have broken down barriers, provided opportunities and championed women who are pursuing careers in engineering across Canada.

Founded in 1990 by Claudette MacKay-Lassonde, a 1971 Polytechnique Montréal graduate, following the December 6, 1989 tragedy at Polytechnique Montréal, CEMF has actively supported female engineering students as a way of honouring the memory of the 14 women who died. Through scholarships and financial assistance, CEMF, thanks to our supporters, has enabled many young women to fulfil their ambitions, thereby strengthening both the profession and our society.

Earlier this year, the CEMF Board of Directors made the difficult decision to wind down the Foundation. However, this end also marks a new beginning: the creation of the Claudette-MacKay-Lassonde Excellence Scholarship, an annual $25,000 pan-Canadian award, which will be managed by Polytechnique Montréal, for second- and third-year women engineering students in Canada.

This new scholarship embodies the values espoused by CEMF for over 30 years. In tribute to Claudette MacKay-Lassonde, it will recognize exceptional female students and complement many existing initiatives in support of women in engineering, such as the Order of the White Rose, a scholarship awarded annually by Polytechnique Montréal to women pursuing graduate studies in engineering.

Donate We are proud of this transition, which will enable us to continue to empower and support the next generation of women engineers. We therefore invite you to consider supporting the Claudette-MacKay-Lassonde Excellence Scholarship. Your generosity will help perpetuate this legacy and encourage the ambitions of remarkable women.

Thank you for being a key contributor to this journey. We are honoured to see the CEMF legacy evolve and eagerly look forward to witnessing its impact on future women engineers. Feel free to contact us should you have any questions or wish to discuss ways of supporting this project.

Please accept our kindest regards and most profound gratitude.

Sincerely,
