Waterloo Engineering is a multi-faceted engineering school with eight academic units, home to about 264 faculty, 1,800 graduate students, and 6,300 undergrads.

All Waterloo Engineering undergraduates are enrolled in our co-operative education system in which they alternate academic terms with paid employment. The way our co-op program is offered is what really sets us apart. Our students finish with an engineering degree and up to two years of relevant and paid work experience.
Students make, on average, between $50,000 - $80,000 over their 5 years in the co-op program. Waterloo pioneered co-operative education in Canada, and now has the largest and most successful co-op program in North America. Students have the opportunity to try up to 6 different work environments, which helps determine future career direction before graduation and entering the work world. Thanks to co-op, our graduates are internationally renowned for possessing the knowledge, skills, and experience industry needs.

At Waterloo Engineering, we want to attract the best and brightest, and we have scholarships to help us do just that. The university automatically awards scholarships to students with admission averages of 85 per cent or better. Within Waterloo Engineering, we also offer additional entrance scholarships based on a student's complete application package (which considers students extracurricular activities,) not just on marks alone. The total value of scholarships awarded to Engineering students this part year was $3.1 million, and we're always working to further increase the number of scholarships available.

Waterloo Women in Engineering
At Waterloo Engineering, the participation of women at all levels is important to us.
In 2009, 17 % of our undergraduate students and 21.5 % of our graduate students were women. 12.5 % of our faculty are women.
While these percentages are on par with those at other engineering schools, Waterloo is determined to do better.
That’s why we established the Women in Engineering Committee (http://wie.uwaterloo.ca/membership.html). This committee reaches out to young women in elementary and high schools, organizes speakers and social events for students and professors, and works hard to develop a support system for women in engineering at Waterloo. The role of the Women in Engineering (WIE) committee is to:
• To keep Waterloo faculty, staff, alumni and students aware of WIE issues on campus, nationally and internationally
• To give women of all ages the opportunity to choose engineering as a career
• To encourage and promote an environment where women can pursue scientific work and study
WiE in co-operation with the Engineering Society and other campus organizations, hosts events every term and is involved in various outreach programs in the Kitchener-Waterloo area.
GO ENG Girl!
The University of Waterloo also believes in supporting the students of the future, which is why the school proudly participates in GO ENG Girl! – an event that every school of engineering across Ontario hosts annually on the same day in the fall for girls in grades 7,8,9 and 10. The Waterloo event includes special guest speakers, an information fair, opportunities to meet current female Waterloo Engineering students, cool hands-on activities and lots of great give-aways!
