It was after she pursued an undergraduate
degree in English, drama and theatre that
Alexandra Meikleham discovered the exciting
world of engineering. Believing engineering will
lead to a career where she canmake a meaningful
contribution to society, today she is a first-year
civil engineering student at Concordia University.
Alexandra says engineering appeals to her
sense of curiosity, and she seeks to use her
creativity to come up with solutions to modern
problems like waste management. As an avid
scuba diver and outdoor enthusiast, she has seen
first-hand the detrimental effects that improper
waste management can have on ecosystems,
particularly the underwater environment.
For the past eight years, Alexandra has volun-
teered as a math and biology tutor for junior high,
high school, and first-year university students.
She also directs students in main stage plays,
choreographing and teaching dance sequences,
and volunteers at a senior centre.

comme la gestion des déchets. Avide de plongée
sous-marine et passionnée du plein air, elle a été
témoin des effets néfastes que peut engendrer une
mauvaise gestion des déchets sur les écosystèmes,
particulièrement les environnements aquatiques.
Depuis huit ans, Alexandra fait du bénévolat en
offrant des heures de tutorat en mathématique et
biologie aux jeunes du secondaire et aux étudiants
en première année au baccalauréat. Elle réalise
aussi des pièces de théâtre étudiantes et s
acquitte
de la chorégraphie et de l
enseignement des
séquences de danse. Finalement, Alexandra fait du
bénévolat à un centre pour personnes âgées.
Nadwa Elbadri is a fourth-year civil and
engineering management student at McMaster
University. She chose engineering because she
believes it reflects her curiosity and love of learning.
Nadwa has introduced new events to engage
women engineers at McMaster as the
co-president of the Women in Engineering
Society. She helped initiate an outreach program
that
saw
engineering
students
giving
presentations to high school students across
Ontario. Her society also collaborated with a
group at McMaster to offer students a workshop
on car safety and winter maintenance.
A dynamic volunteer in the community,
Nadwa participates in a variety of extra-curricular
activities including serving meals at a local soup
kitchen. She helped promote peace and diversity
in the City of Brantford through the Arts Block of
Brantford event and was an ambassador
representing the Muslim community at the
International Villages Festival in Brantford to
celebrate cultural diversity.

a aussi offert aux étudiants des ateliers sur la sécurité
et l
entretien hivernal d
une voiture.
Bénévole dynamique au sein de sa communauté,
Nadwa participe à une variété d
activités parascolaires
incluant celle de servir des repas à la soupe populaire

Arts Block of Brantford.
