The Canadian Engineering Memorial Foundation was incor-
porated in 1990 under the initiative of Claudette MacKay-Las-
sonde, P.Eng. then President of the Professional Engineers of
Ontario, who gathered a number of other concerned female en-
gineers to establish the Fondation commémorative du génie
canadien 1989/1989 Canadian Engineering Foundation.
In August 1990, the Board approved these objectives:
“To provide the opportunity for women to prepare for, re-
ceive training and an education in engineering, and to do all such
things as are incidental and conducive to this objective, specifi-
cally:
• To use, apply, give or distribute from time to time all or any
part of the property of the Corporation or the income there-
from for the education of women in disciplines related
to engineering and to educational institutions in
Canada, including schools, colleges or universi-
ties;
• To provide for scholarships particularly to
women attending or proposing to attend any
school, college or university or undertaking or
proposing to undertake post-graduate study
or research in disciplines related to engineering
in Canada;
• To provide for bursaries or financial assis-
tance, including loans or gifts particularly to women
attending or proposing to attend any school, college or
university or undertaking or proposing to undertake post-
graduate study or research in Canada in disciplines related to en-
gineering; and
• To establish a national program of awards and incentives
to encourage women to choose a career in engineering and rec-
ognize role models in engineering.”
The Foundation was launched under the stewardship of the
Canadian Council of Professional Engineers who administered
the charity until 1998 when a part-time Executive Director was
hired. The Foundation has been managed by Megram, a national
association management company in Renfrew, Ontario since
2002. The Executive Director and Megram support staff manage
day-to-day operations, provide administrative and financial man-
agement support to the Board of Directors and oversee the Foun-
dation’s scholarships and other programs.
CEMF is led by a group of prominent members of Canada's
engineering and business community and is funded entirely
through donations from individual engineers, corporations, en-
gineering faculties and engineering societies. Edward Jones man-
ages the financial portfolio which provides interest income used
to support Foundation activities.
The name was changed to the Canadian Engineering Memo-
rial Foundation in 2013 when the organization adopted new By-
laws in accordance with the new Not-For-Profit Corporations Act.

la Fondation :
« De permettre aux femmes qui le souhaitent de se préparer et
de recevoir une formationet uneéducationengénie, et demettreen
place toutes mesures nécessaires ou propices à la réalisation de cet
objectif, précisément :
• de temps en temps, d'utiliser, d'affecter, de donner ou de dis-
tribuer la propriété de la société ou les revenus qui en sont
tirés, en entier ou en partie, pour l'éducation des femmes
dans lesdisciplines liées augénieet auxétablissements
scolaires canadiens, incluant les écoles, collèges ou
universités;
•
de prévoir des bourses, particulière-
ment pour les femmes inscrites ou qui projettent
s'inscrire à une école, à un collège ou à une univer-
sité, ou inscrites ouqui projettent s'inscrireàunpro-
gramme aux études supérieures ou qui souhaitent
entreprendre des recherches dans une discipline liée
au génie au Canada;
•
de prévoir des bourses ou un soutien financier,
incluant desprêtsoucadeaux, particulièrement aux femmes in-
scrites ou qui projettent s'inscrire à une école, à un collège ou à une
université, ou inscrites ou qui projettent s'inscrire à un programme
aux études supérieures ou qui souhaitent entreprendre des
recherches dans une discipline liée au génie au Canada; et
• d'établir un programme national de prix et de mesures incita-
tives pour encourager les femmes à choisir une carrière en génie et
pour reconnaître lesmodèles à suivre en génie. »
La FCGC a été lancée avec le soutien du Conseil canadien des in-
génieurs qui l'administra jusqu'au moment où un directeur à temps
partiel fut embauché en 1998. Depuis 2002, Megram, une entreprise
de gestion d'associations nationales située à Renfrew, enOntario, as-
sure lagestionde laFondation. Ledirecteur et lepersonnel de soutien
de Megram gèrent les affaires quotidiennes, fournissent un soutien
administratif et financier au Conseil d'administration et supervisent
les bourses et autres programmes de la Fondation.
Un groupe demembres d'ingénieurs et d'entrepreneurs canadi-
ens de renommées se trouve à la tête de la FCGCqui est entièrement
financée par les dons d'ingénieurs, d'entreprises, de facultés et de so-
ciétés degénie. Edward Jones assure lagestionduportfolio financier
fournissant à la Fondation les fonds nécessaires à la poursuite de ses
activités.
En 2013, suivant l'adoption des nouveaux règlements adminis-
tratifs requis par la Loi sur les organisations à but non lucratif, le nom
a étémodifié à : Fondation commémorative du génie canadien.
